Bonnie Kay (Nichols) Grove was born on July 7, 1957 in Wichita, Kansas and unexpectedly went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 15, 2011. Services Monday, May 23, 11:30 AM at Sunnyside Baptist Church, Estelle and Morris, Wichita,KS. Preceded in death by her adoring father, Warren (Nick) Nichols, who always called her "Baby", plus her dear friend and former husband, Kent Grove. Survivors include loving son: Cody Grove; mother: Glennys Nichols; sister: Carol (Karl) Childs; brother: Robby Nichols; nieces: Jennifer (Scott) Wise; Stephanie (Stan) Riley; Robin (Ricky) Hoffman; nephew: Zachary (Joni) Nichols. Also 10 great nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
With her gentle loving spirit, she taught Cody her love of nature and a reverence for all living things. When Cody began Wichita Montessori School, she was first a volunteer and then an employee there through his 5th grade. According to Karen Comb, WMS retired administrator, Bonnie left an important imprint on the lives of all their children and Staff with her love and agile interaction at gym and recess. Their family's home was destroyed in the "Andover" tornado and all possessions were lost. This didn't daunt her spirit. Unfortunately, at the age of 34, she was diagnosed with an invasive growing brain tumor in her occipital lobe, which was surgically removed. The injury wracked havoc with her ability to read and discern words, daily vision disturbances, keep her balance and other side effects. In her mid-forties, a neuro-psychologist told her that her brain function would geometrically decrease from then on.
According to her mother, Glennys Nichols, Bonnie had a full-blown capacity to hug people with all her strength and love. She loved music! She played her mandolin and sang for various events. She and her many friends played together, too. A memorial In Bonnie's memory has been established with Wichita Montessori School (not for profit), 8311 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67207. Checks made to: WMS Future Fund, with memo to Bonnie Grove. Funds will be used for a preschool playground.
